7 Healthy Hair Habits

1. Healthy Diet

Healthy eating habits not only help you live longer and reduce your risk for heart disease, it can also help your hair. Diets low in both zinc and iron can result in weak/brittle hair. Increasing foods rich in zinc and iron can help strengthen your hair. Foods rich in iron include: lentils, kidney beans, spinach, nuts and poultry. Foods rich in zinc include: cashews, chickpeas, oysters and oatmeal.

2. Quit Smoking

3. Wet Hair

Comb wet hair with extreme care because hair shafts are fragile and prone to breakage while damp. Take a wide-toothed comb and run it from the roots to the ends of your hair gently. If your hair is particularly tangled, it may be easier to comb from tips to roots.

4. Protect your head

Sun can damage your skin and also harm your hair. Exposure to UV radiation can cause strands to lose proteins and weaken over time. If you spend lots of time in the sun, the quality of your hair can be affected. So, it’s a good idea to cover your head.

5. Change your hair style

Tight hairstyles like a bun or ponytail may cause hair follicle damage that can sometimes lead to hair loss. This is a type of hairloss called traction alopecia. The constant tugging on the hair from these hairstyles is what causes the hair loss. You can prevent this by changing your hair style or ensuring your hair elastic is not too tight.  

6. Use supplements

Deficiencies in biotin, iron and vitamin D can all result in hair loss. If you are deficient in these nutrients, supplementation may help restore your hairs health. 7. Hair loss treatments

Medications such as finasteride and minoxidil can help prevent hairloss and regrow hair. Finasteride is an oral prescription medication that’s often used to treat baldness. It prevents your body from converting testosterone into DHT. DHT is the hormone believed by many to be responsible for hair loss. Minoxidil is a topical treatment that comes in liquid form. It helps hair growth by increasing blood supply to hair follicles.
